SEPTEMBER 7, 2026: HAWKESBURY’S annual Country Music Raceday has hit new heights.
Not even a freakish windstorm late in the afternoon could spoil a record 4500 crowd last Saturday.
“It was clearly our biggest attendance at the Country Music meeting which was introduced only a few years ago,” Hawkesbury Race Club chief executive Lea Porteous said today.
“And certainly up there with the biggest crowd at the track since COVID, including our Saturday metropolitan stand-alone date in May.
“The addition of the Country Music Raceday to our racing calendar has been a huge success.”
Ms Porteous said the support for last Saturday’s meeting was such that the club stopped selling admission tickets.
“All our areas were absolutely packed.
“The windstorm hit us late in the afternoon and lasted about five minutes, and did create some havoc. We got through it without any serious incidents and we sincerely hope everyone affected is okay.”
“I’m sure everyone is looking forward to next year’s meeting, scheduled for Saturday, September 4.”
Hawkesbury will race again on Thursday with an eight-race program scheduled, and the club is looking forward to its next Saturday meeting on November 7.
This is the Evergreen Turf Ladies Day Cup fixture, which was transferred from its traditional Thursday date (which coincided with the Oaks at Flemington) last year to a Saturday, and proved very popular.
The $200,000 Ladies Day Cup (1500m) highlights the eight-race program, giving trainers the opportunity of a lead-up race to The Gong (1600m) at Kembla Grange later in the month, and The Ingham (1600m) at Royal Randwick in December.
