FRAZER ADAMANT YOUNG JOCKEY IS "MAGIC"

THURSDAY: September 22, 2022: MULTIPLE Group 1 winning trainer Garry Frazer isn’t one to make outlandish statements.

The experienced Hawkesbury horseman has been around long enough to know talent when he sees it.

So when he says Tyler Schiller is the best apprentice since his son-in-law Tye Angland (an 11-time Group 1 winner who was left a quadriplegic after a horror fall in Hong Kong in 2018), it’s worth taking notice.

Schiller clinched a Hawkesbury treble today when he won the closer, the Clarendon Tavern Benchmark 64 Handicap (1800m), on Frazer’s resilient eight-year-old Hendo’s Magic ($12).

In a tight finish, Schiller got the gelding home narrowly ahead of front-runner Vanbari ($8) and Brave Boy ($12).

“I’m not saying this about Tyler because he won on Hendo’s Magic; I have been saying it for quite a while,” Frazer said this evening.

“He is a terrific young lad with an old head, and is a good thinker.

“When Tyler comes out of the room to ride in a race, you can tell he has done his form.

“There’s no question about his ability, and he rode Hendo’s Magic perfectly.

“I wanted the horse ridden closer today because there didn’t seem to be a lot of speed, and it worked out well.”

Frazer didn’t have Hendo’s Magic earlier in his career, but has now three races (the first two at Muswellbrook) with him, and he has also been placed twice in town.

This was Frazer’s first victory of the new season, and he went close to scoring a double.

Hendo’s Magic’s stablemate Tocomah ($6.50), also ridden by Schiller, was just edged out by Walkin’Talkin ($6.50) in the previous race, the Lander Toyota Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).

. RacingNSW stewards reported The Kosciuszko contender Golden Point was 4/5 lame in the near hind leg after he failed as favorite in the Pioneer Services Conditional Open Handicap (1300m).

Golden Point ($2.30) finished last of the five runners, beaten nearly 11 lengths in a totally uncharacteristic performance, and his apprentice rider Zac Lloyd said he had concerns with the gelding’s action throughout the race and in particular the straight when put under pressure.

Stewards will follow up on Golden Point’s post-race condition, and advised his Armidale trainer Stirling Osland a veterinary clearance will be required before the gelding can either race or trial again.
