SATURDAY: June 14, 2025: TALK about versatility!

Hawkesbury trainer Peter Green drove a winner at the Penrith harness racing meeting on Thursday night, and followed up by also scoring at Goulburn races yesterday with a mare he trains.

Green, who dabbles in driving pacers as well as training thoroughbreds, got $2.20 favorite Dancing With My Ex home by more than seven metres at Penrith.

Then his five-year-old mare Killer Kerr ($3.80 favorite) was just as impressive in taking the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m) at Goulburn by two and a half lengths.

Ridden by Louise Day, Killer Kerr made light of her 60.5kg, sweeping wide on the track in the straight from well back to easily defeat Spirits Burn Deep ($5) and Battle Abbey ($14).

Purchased for $6500 at the 2021 Inglis HTBA yearling sale in Sydney, the daughter of Shooting To Win was named after Australian soccer star Sam Kerr, and has now won three races and been placed nine times, and has returned just over $120,000.

“Her stable name is Sammy, and it was great to see her get another win on the board,” Green said today.

“Killer Kerr has been an unlucky mare in many of her races (as evidenced by her numerous placings), and we have found that she races best when ridden back in the field off a good speed.

“She really responded to that at Goulburn yesterday.”

Killer Kerr’s three wins have all been for female jockeys. Robyn Freeman partnered her in her first two successes at Nowra in December 2023 and February last year.

“It seems she goes better for the lady riders,” Green said.

“Grant Buckley rode her in a race earlier in the year when she didn’t go so well, and got off and suggested we should go back to putting a female jockey on her.”

Day also had the mount when Killer Kerr came from well back to finish a close second at $21 to favorite Orthie’s Boys in a similar race over 1200m at Goulburn on May 30.

. Green’s second winner of the season brought the number of winners for the Hawkesbury training base to 144 in the 2024-25 racing year.
