CHEVALIER'S "STAR" A SHINING LIGHT

WEDNESDAY: March 13, 2024: MARC Chevalier rated his victory with Everyone’s A Star on the Kensington track today as “most important to the stable”.

Well supported Everyone’s A Star ($6) broke through in town in the Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) against her own sex to give the Hawkesbury trainer his fifth win of the season, and second in town in a relatively brief career.

“I was always confident once she scored at Wyong last December that she was up to making her mark in town,” Chevalier said.

“Not only was it pleasing to see her get that result, but it was also important for our stable.

“It showed that we’re capable of winning city races without relying on our stable star Torrens (who gave Chevalier his first city success in the Listed Christmas Cup at Royal Randwick in December 2022).

“And I’m sure Everyone’s A Star can go on with it.

“That was her seventh run this preparation, but she has matured and continues to do well at home.

“I wasn’t concerned about running her again after she ran third in a Saturday Midway Benchmark 72 Handicap (1100m) at Randwick 11 days ago.

“We didn’t really have an option as there wasn’t another suitable race until the end of the month, and I was pretty confident beforehand she would be hard to beat today.

“The only snag was another awkward barrier (she drew 10 out of 13 when placed behind Mad

Darcey on March 2), but once Tyler Schiller got her into a good spot, I was even more confident.”

Chevalier trains Everyone’s A Star for a syndicate headed by Dr Ulysses Crosson, who has half a dozen horses in his Hawkesbury stable.

Dr Crosson purchased the daughter of Star Turn for $15,000 at the 2021 Inglis HTBA yearling sale in Sydney, and her three wins and seven placings have returned just over $126,000.

“Dr Crosson is a wonderful supporter of our stable, and he is now breeding from his wonderful mare The Iron Maiden, who raced 126 times and won 12 races and was placed 29 times,” Chevalier said.

“I have an unraced two-year-old The Iron Star (by Stratum Star) who will come into the stable next week, and there is also a yearling colt by Everyone’s A Star’s sire Star Turn.”

Chevalier wasn’t disappointed with his Sydney Cup hope Torrens’ resumption at Randwick last Saturday when eighth to Serpentine in the Listed Randwick City Stakes (2000m).

“He showed once again that he needs at least 2400m to produce his best, and he was beaten only four lengths after chasing the winner throughout,” Chevalier said.

“He has pulled up well and will go to the Group 3 Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday week.”
