But to do so in only 10 days is something to shout about.
Little wonder Hawkesbury trainer Peter Green said he was “on top of the world” after Bold and Blazen had doubled up at Wyong today.
Again ridden by Grant Buckley, Bold and Blazen followed up his $19 success in a Super Maiden Plate (1200m) at Gosford on November 6 by taking the CG&E Class 1 Handicap (1350m) at $7.50.
Green’s other winner was Coyote at his home track two days after Bold and Blazen had clinched his first victory.
“We’re rapt,” Green said this evening. “We’re having a super run, and it’s so important for a small stable doing our best for our owners.
“I’ve got nine horses, but only five are in racing trim at present.
“Bold and Blazen and Coyote are certainly good advertisements for us, especially coming from other yards.”
Bold and Blazen began brilliantly from his outside draw in the field of nine, and then trailed the leader and favorite Lightning Glory ($2.30).
Buckley ensured Green’s five-year-old put pressure on Lightning Glory approaching the home turn and had his measure before too long after straightening.
He surged clear over the closing stages to win comfortably from Last Druid ($16) and Lightning Glory.
Bold and Blazen has been a work in progress for both Green and Buckley, and is starting to repay them.
“It’s a mental thing with the horse, but he’s coming around,” Green said.
“I have to take him out onto the track at home with a pony to work, and I have kept him to tracks on racedays where the clerks of the course and starters know him.”
Green had entered Bold and Blazen for the opening meeting of the Canterbury night season last Friday, but decided Wyong was the better option.
“He might have to go to town now to chase a hat-trick,” Green said.
“There’s another Evening Star Benchmark 78 Handicap at Canterbury over 1250m at night on Friday week.
“Provided he continues to do well, we might have a crack at that.”
As for Green’s other recent winner Coyote, the former Victorian has been nominated for a Class 1 Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle on Thursday as Green chases four wins in a fortnight.
The multi-skilled horseman also drives pacers, and has bookings at tomorrow’s Menangle meeting.
. Fellow Hawkesbury trainer Ed Cummings posted his third win since returning to his former base when Nantucket Island ($6.50) scored at Kembla Grange yesterday.
Ridden by Lee Magorrian, Nantucket Island defeated well backed Devine Outcast ($6.50) and leading Hawkesbury trainer Brad Widdup’s $3.30 favorite Tequisoda in the Provincial Benchmark 64 Handicap (1400m).
A five-year-old daughter of American Pharoah, Nantucket Island was purchased by Cummings for $200,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale.
She has quickly shown a liking for Kembla Grange with both of her wins since a lengthy break being record there.
Her only “blemish” in three runs this preparation was forgiveable when she struck a heavy track at Rosehill Gardens on October 29.
